Caesar the Troll Part 6

Perhaps today we will see a return to the more normal style of the Song of the Troll... or maybe not.
Now that my cliff-hangers are becoming a little more mysterious... try commenting and telling me what you think will happen next. Your guesses will amuse me, I am sure, and since I am still writing, it might influence me!

Night was falling around the two singers; Caesar was out later than normally ever he dared. He had to run back for his catacombs, and already he would be having a short night. Seeing that the miracle child had no place to go, he picked her up and carried her quickly as he leaped and bounded from rock to rock and over broken heaps of twisted metal. At last he reached the junk heap that concealed an entrance to his catacombs, the main network of his domain. He set her down and showed her to follow him through a narrow tunnel in the rubbish that led to a much larger pit.
Caesar had always ascended that way, when he used it, by pressing his arms and legs against the walls of the well-like hole, grasping protruding rocks or merely pressing hard enough to climb. There was simply no way the little child could get down the hole into the capital of his kingdom safely, so once she was in the little cave he had her climb on his back and wrap her arms around his neck, her fingers just barely touching under his chin.
Descending, though, was another story entirely. Caesar pressed his limbs against four points on the walls, centered himself, and let go. He plummeted down at ever increasing speed, the wind of the fall lifting the girl's skirts and pulling her hair into a column as she shrieked in terror and delight.
His feet hit the ground with a hard thud, but he barely felt it. He set the girl down on the dented stone floor, and she immediately began to wander into the dark, ravine-like catacombs, whose halls were nearly thirty feet in height, with a path barely five feet wide at the base, nearly ten feet at the ceiling. These were the illustrious carved walls bounding Caesar's underground domain, a snake-like kingdom that weaved and delved unpredictably. The girl went only a few steps in, before she seized Caesar's hand, and even then went only a few steps farther. Caesar looked back at her in confusion, and saw she was standing there in the utmost fright and consternation. Her eyes were looking every which way, and every time a drip of water dropped she looked that way. Then Caesar understood. She was afraid of the dark that phased him not at all. The king had a solution for that.

*wonders if ultimitely either Caesar will die saving the girl, or Caesar will try to save the girl and fail*

    1. Hehehe... the next time I prompt people to guess what happens next, I will have to make sure my cut-off point is more dramatic. Now you really know I am writing this on the spot!

Interesting predictions there... you'll have to wait and see how it turns out... as I write it!

    1. Oh, I am remiss, AoL, for my brutal failure to notify you. By the way, as you may have sort of observed, the theme of this story has changed substantially from the idea in your thread that inspired it. I will make it up to you by writing more... soon =) Caesar the troll comes out every other day at about 7:40 AM CST, give or take about half an hour... 'cept Sundays... then it's a hit or miss thing. That's all to say... I will write more soon!

    1. Phantom of the Opera was in fact one of the inspirations for this story. Hence the theater and song, in some ways, haha.
